Northeast States (orange)

Definitely, it´s a huge country, whether in terms of population or in land area, with a territorial extension of about 8.5 million square meters, and then it´s easy to imagine how diversified Brazil is, either ethnically and culturally.
Portuguese is our official language. Of course, excepting for those languages and dialects still spoken by Indian tribes living in remote reservations, Portuguese is the only tongue of daily life. However, depending on the location you are on the map; Actually, a superficial knowledge on some words in Portuguese couldn´t  represent an easy conversation with the locals, it ought not be enough and it wouldn´t help you that much.
Certainly, you´d hear to lots of different accents or local slang, which could make you to think, that it´d be a strange ancestral dialect or a sort of extraterrestrial communication sounds, at last everything, less Portuguese! Many of them are unknown even for some natives from the other areas across the country.
So, if you´re planning to come to Brazil for visiting, working or simply to know if it´s really true that you´d find monkeys on the streets and naked girls everywhere, or whatever are your intentions! It may be helpful that you start learning a bit on this issue.
